Our Story

What started as a small hobby crafting medieval horse tack for our thoroughbred, Darci, quickly morphed into a full-time small business. Friends and family asked constantly about making items for them, and we did it- but only for the cost of materials at first. That gave us the ability to practice and improve our skills, as well as the confidence to create a multitude of different items from just a hide of leather and an idea.

Beginning on Etsy in 2013 asThe Dark Mark Co., as well as doing local craft and renaissance fairs, we were able to grow and branch out. It helped us test the market and see if our own style of leatherwork touched an audience. These experiences helped us grow into the leatherworkers we are today.

The leather studio has evolved into a family run business, and is fully operated by sisters, Kirsten and Riana. Our workshop is located on our property in the mountains of southern New Mexico, nestled amongst the cottonwoods on the edge of our horse pasture. With windows on every wall, we get to overlook our animals and the natural world around us. This is often reflected in our work, and we love incorporating it as much as we can.

We are confident in the products we create, and strive to make a connection with all of our customers through our art. Consequently through them, we are able to do what we love. We hope to create these works of art for as long as our hands allow us.
